Meet MEL — the “miscellaneous electrical load.”


Too many of us forget that there are quite a few appliances that don’t ever turn off.  Televisions, some lighting and other elecvtrical devices that are always ready.  While an aquarium is mentioned in the same context as many of these wireless devices that consume energy when they are not actually operating, I don’t think my fish would be happy if I turned off the heat and the filter when the light went out.  It may consume energy all the time, but the aquarium is also the exclusive habitat for fish and should not be considered part of a home’s phantom load.
