Goldfish ICH is a problem that will kill your pet if you don’t identify and treat it immediately. The goldfish ICH parasite burrows its way into your goldfish and will basically eat it alive, until infection ravages the fish to the point of death.
Treating ICH is not really that difficult. This way of treating Goldfish ICH is different from my personal style, although there is the fact that goldfish live in cool water. I treat fish in tropical water.
I also use Malachite Green as well. However I prefer to raise the tank temperature a few degrees, often from 78 to 80 or so. Then I treat the tank with the appropriate dose and ensure it stays in force for at least a week after the little salt like specks have been gone for at least a week.
You can’t kill goldfish ICH, or any other ICH infestation while it is on the fish, rather the only time is after it has fallen off as cysts then changed into free swimming spores. The free swimmers are vulnerable to Malachite Green, so this is the only time they can be eliminated. Three days after the specks are gone are not enough.
